A nonprofit corporation established to honor and recognize the accomplishments of Lauretta Schimmoler, the first woman in the United States to be involved in acquiring land for—and subsequently managing—an airport: Port Bucyrus–Crawford County Airport (17G) in Bucyrus, Ohio.
After relocating to California, she remained deeply engaged in aviation, serving as the first secretary of The Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots. In the mid-1930s, she founded the Aerial Nurse Corps of America, which ultimately became the foundation for the United States Air Force Flight Nurse program. Lauretta Schimmoler played a significant and lasting role in aviation history at both the local and national levels.
